Tigers notes 2009-09-03

PITCHER Nate Robertson is scheduled to start Thursday afternoon in the series finale against Cleveland. Robertson threw 70 pitches Saturday in a 3-1 loss against the Tampa Bay Rays in his first start of the season for Detroit. "I hope he can throw 85 (pitches)," manager Jim Leyland said. Robertson gave up two runs -- one earned -- on four hits and one walk against the Rays.

LEFT-HANDER Jarrod Washburn was hard on himself Monday after giving up six runs in an 11-7 loss to the Rays. When asked to assess his play since being acquired by the Tigers , Washburn said it has been "pretty terrible." Leyland disagreed. "I wouldn't say it's been terrible," Leyland said. "I'm sure at this point he's disappointed."

THE Tigers won't miss Jim Thome, traded by the White Sox to the Dodgers. In 625 career at-bats vs. Detroit, Thome has 60 homers.
